Description

Your robot represents many thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of effort. Don't let a dead, low-preforming, or weak battery cut even a single match short. Ensure your robot preforms at its best, every time, with the BFG!

The BFG is a precision sensor, integrated into a SB50 battery cable assembly, that monitors battery current and voltage to identify discharge rate, current spikes, voltage dips, depth of discharge, and more. These measurements are preformed 100 times a second 24 hours a day to provide you with a full picture of your battery's overall health and state of charge. Since the BFG is always connected it knows how hard each battery was used, how it was cared for, and compiles that data into a comprehensive health metric you can instantly view from the onboard OLED display.

Monitor your battery's health
Battery load testers only tell part of the story. The BFG watches every charge and discharge, and with the help of its advanced state estimation model, you have an robust, integrated solution to understand your battery's health and capacity at a glance - no load tester required.

Maximize your battery investment
All batteries wear out, losing capacity each charge/discharge cycle. Use the BFG to watch your depth-of-discharge during practice. When you see the battery approach 60-70 percent discharged, replace the battery with a freshly charged one. The less you discharge each battery each cycle the more cycles they will last, with deep discharges being especially damaging.

Compatible with SB50 connectors
While SB50 connectors have higher contact resistance and lower current capacity than the larger SB120, this BFG variant still utilizes 4 AWG wire. This helps minimize overall battery lead resistance, and allows teams to continue using SB50 connectors if they are unable to upgrade to SB120. In addition, the BFG lugs are pull-tested and crimped using a true 6-sided die. Bad crimps aren't just match ending, they can cause wires and connectors to dangerously overheat.

You asked, we delivered. While the SB50 BFG variant wasn’t originally planned, we received enough feedback that we decided to introduce the SB50 variant in time for the 2026 FRC season. Please note that since this variant was such a late addition, the lower half of the BFG enclosure (the portion that wraps around the SB50 connector) is 3D printed.

Battery state at your fingertips
Monitor the state of your battery using the built in OLED screen, or watch it remotely via CAN telemetry. A 24-bit ADC allows BFG to measure with milliamp precision while still able to see 500A spikes in either direction. Each unit is load tested and calibrated, meaning each BFG isn't just precise, it's accurate too.

Comprehensive battery data
Statistics are grouped by battery charge/discharge cycle and by robot match. The BFG continuously tracks:

  • Battery voltage and current
  • Minimum voltage (diagnose brownouts)
  • RMS Current (estimate average load during matches)
  • Peak current (max current seen during the last match)
  • Battery capacity (how much energy does full charge store in Ah and Joules)
  • Battery charge (how much energy is left in the battery in Ah and Joules)
  • Effective capacity (how many Ah or Joules are left at the current discharge rate)
  • Battery age (in cycles and days)

FRC Legal
The BFG is legal for the 2026 FRC season and qualifies as valid modification to the robot's electrical system under R625.

Regarding robot weigh-in, the BFG is not covered under the allowance in R103 and should be included in the robot's overall weight. Teams and LFIs should add 1.0 oz to the measured robot weight to account for the BFG (BFG assembly weight, minus the lugs, terminals, and 12" 4AWG wire excluded by R103)

Includes

  • BFG with integrated SB50 connector
  • 12" (300mm) 4AWG battery wires
  • 6" (150mm) dual CAN pigtail
  • Fully assembled - just install on your battery
